However, a study conducted by scientists at the University of Florida showed that these insects like the color blue and, conversely, are repelled by warm shades of yellow.
Horseflies, on the other hand, prefer black because it is present in their favorite bait – cattle. And less interested in their light colors: white, cream, yellow.
Professor Geoffrey Riffell, a specialist in the Department of Biology at the University of Washington, notes that mosquitoes prefer colors such as red, orange, black and blue. However, they ignore green, purple, blue and white. True, scientists conducted their experiment with only one species – Aedes aegypti (Egyptian mosquito). Interestingly, he reacted to color only if there was an irritant in the form of a smell at the same time: in fact, mosquitoes are attracted to the smell of human sweat.
Ticks are blind and deaf, and yet one study found that clothing color may play a role. The authors of the experiment found that ticks prefer people in light-colored clothing. Those who wear dark colors are less interesting for them. On the other hand, it is light-colored clothes that are advised to be worn in the forest: it is easier to detect a tick on it and get rid of it before it sticks to the skin. The main principle: the less open areas of the body, the safer.
It also turned out that wasps and bees tend to fly towards blue, purple and green. They don’t like red or orange colors.
