Four jurors in the case of neonatologist Elina Sushkevich and former acting. O. the head physician of the maternity hospital No. 4 of Kaliningrad, Elena Belaya, convicted in the case of the murder of a premature baby, spoke about the pressure from the judge. Sushkevich’s lawyer Kamil Babasov told Medvestnik about this, according to RBC.

The day before, the First Court of Appeal of General Jurisdiction considered the appeal on the case. Four jurors participating in the panel reported that presiding judge Andrey Vyunov “went into the jury room and convinced them of the guilt of the defendants,” the lawyer claims. Babasov said that one of the four jurors who did not appear at the final meeting of the Moscow Regional Court said that the police detained him that day and released him only for dinner.

The court will continue to consider the appeal on April 26. On this day, the last word of the convicts will be heard and the decision will be announced.

Recall that in September 2022, the Moscow Regional Court sentenced Sushkevich and Belaya to nine and nine and a half years in a penal colony and forbade them to work in their profession for three years after their release. Doctors are accused of deliberately killing a child who was born prematurely in November 2018 at maternity hospital No. 4 in the Kaliningrad region. The investigation believes that the then deputy chief physician Belaya suggested that the baby would most likely die and this would worsen the statistics. Therefore, she decided to kill the newborn and attracted the anesthesiologist-resuscitator Sushkevich for this, who, according to the investigation, introduced magnesium sulfate to the child.

The doctors themselves pleaded not guilty.
