Lithuania proposes to the European Union to divide the imposition of sanctions against the state corporation “Rosatom” into seven stages after the refusal of some countries to impose restrictions at a time. According to TASS, this was stated by the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Lithuania Gabrielius Landsbergis.

“Our proposal to impose sanctions against Rosatom, which some EU countries did not agree with for their own reasons, we propose to divide into seven stages,” he said.

According to him, Vilnius does not intend to abandon the initiative to impose sanctions against Rosatom. “We will not retreat, we will look for a compromise,” he argued.

Mairead McGuinness, European Commissioner for Financial Services, Financial Stability and Capital Markets, said last week that the EU is preparing to impose an 11th round of sanctions against Russia. She explained that the new sanctions will be aimed primarily at combating attempts to circumvent restrictive measures.

Earlier, the European edition of the newspaper Politico reported that the EU will start discussing the introduction of the 11th package of sanctions after the Catholic Easter, which was celebrated on April 9. The head of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, said that the 11th package of sanctions would be aimed at countering various methods of circumventing them.
