US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken had separate conversations with Sudanese Army Commander Abdel Fattah al-Burhan and the head of the country’s Rapid Reaction Force (RRF) Mohammed Hamdan Dagalo (Hamidti). It is reported by Interfax.

“Blinken stressed the urgent need for a ceasefire to ensure the delivery of humanitarian aid to those affected by the fighting, the reunification of Sudanese families and to allow the international community in Khartoum to reassure their presence,” the Foreign Office said in a statement.

The US Secretary of State expressed “grave concern” over the death and injury of a large number of civilians in Sudan as a result of prolonged hostilities.

He also stressed the responsibility of the two generals to “ensure the safety and well-being of civilians, diplomatic personnel and humanitarian workers.”

Earlier, UN Special Representative for Sudan Volker Perthes said that more than 180 people were killed and more than 1.8 thousand were injured in Sudan as a result of hostilities between the Sudanese armed forces and the RRF paramilitary group.

The situation in Sudan became more complicated on Saturday, when clashes with the use of heavy weapons between the army and the RRF broke out in the capital of the country, Khartoum, and some other cities. The statements of the RRF command said that the current situation has developed after the armed forces, without any prior notice, besieged one of their bases in the southern suburbs of Khartoum. The army command, in turn, explained its actions by the fact that the RRF had recently acted more than once without any coordination with the military.
