A sector of the community of San José de Aloburo, in the Pimampiro canton, in Imbabura, was declared in emergency by Mayor Armando Chávez, who received the reports and suggestions from the National Risk and Emergency Management Service (SNGRE) and the Committee of Emergency Operations (COE).
The displacement of a land mass and the cracks that present houses, roads and land in that area forced to make this determination. According to Chávez, the emergent measure will allow prompt attention to the families that had to be evacuated.
Immediate actions include the maintenance and opening of alternate roads to guarantee mobility and manage support from provincial and national agencies in the face of this difficult situation that Pimampiro is going through, it was indicated.
The SNGRE technicians warn that the landslides continue and the cracks in the roads, houses and lots are becoming larger and larger every day. The latest report indicates that around 30 hectares have been affected so far.
The risk forced twelve families to abandon their homes to preserve their integrity, these people overnight left their homes where they lived for several decades.

Those affected were evacuated amid tears. They observed how the place that was their abode for several years ended up cracking, especially the walls and floors. Mayor Chávez reported that eight families were transferred to the municipal shelter, located in the old school in the El Tejar community.
Another family was relocated days ago to a municipal-owned house and three more are in the homes of relatives and friends. Professionals in psychology and social work from the Municipality of Pimampiro provide permanent support to affected families.

The Ministry of Public Health (MSP) and the local Fire Department have come together to offer care to the victims. Next week, the National Risk Management Service will arrive with food and toilet kits.
Yesterday, risk analysis technicians from the SNGRE carried out a geological study of the entire affected area, to determine possible origins and scope that the cracks and earth displacement could have.
The report would be ready this Sunday. The Municipality has also requested the support of professionals from the Ministry of Transport and Public Works and universities, who will arrive in the sector this Monday, it was said.
The recommendations made by the technicians will make it possible to take the most appropriate actions.
