Amendments have been introduced to the State Duma on criminal liability for the execution of decisions of foreign and international bodies that are contrary to Russian law. The authors of the initiative – among them the speaker Vyacheslav Volodin and the leaders of all factions – believe that such a decision will “protect the country” from the “unfriendly” actions of international organizations.
The initiative involves granting powers to the head of state to “protect” Russians in the event that foreign or international bodies make decisions that are contrary to Russian law.
Volodin proposed amendments to the legislation on criminal liability for the execution of decisions of international bodies and calls for execution in March, after the ICC issued arrest warrants for President Vladimir Putin and children’s ombudsman Maria Lvova-Belova, RBC reminds.
The Kremlin recalled that Russia has not recognized the jurisdiction of the ICC since 2016, and the Russian Foreign Ministry called the accusations of “forced removal of minors” false. Later, the Russian Investigative Committee opened a case against the four ICC judges who made this decision.
