The Black Sea will never be a NATO sea, it is common to all coastal states, said Dmitry Peskov, press secretary of the President of the Russian Federation. It is reported by Interfax.
“We paid attention. The statement itself rests on two contradictions. NATO and demilitarization are mutually exclusive concepts. The Black Sea will never be a NATO sea,” Peskov told reporters, commenting on the statement by Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dmitry Kuleba that the Black Sea should be demilitarized and turned into NATO’s inland sea.
“This is a common sea for all coastal states. It should be a sea of cooperation, interaction and security. This should be indivisible security,” the Kremlin spokesman emphasized.
Earlier, Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dmitry Kuleba said at the Black Sea Security Conference that the Black Sea should be turned into a NATO sea, as happened with the Baltic Sea. He noted that Kyiv supports the idea of integrating the air and missile defense system of Ukraine and NATO allies in the Black and Baltic Seas.
“A threat to one is a threat to all,” Kuleba stressed. According to him, the Black Sea needs to be demilitarized and should be used for travel and trade.
