The Supreme Court of Tatarstan has sentenced Kazan resident Ilnaz Galyaviyev to life imprisonment for the armed attack and murder of seven students and two teachers of gymnasium No. 175 in Kazan in May 2021. It is reported by Interfax.
“Ilnaz Galyaviev is found guilty and sentenced to life imprisonment,” the judge said, reading out the verdict.
The defendant was also fined 200,000 rubles. Claims for compensation for non-pecuniary damage, the court ruled to partially satisfy.
The court found the defendant guilty under s. “a, e, and” part 2 of Art. 105 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (murder), part 3 of Art. 30 – paragraphs. “a, c, e, and” part 2 of Art. 105 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (attempted murder), part 1 of Art. 222.1 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (illegal acquisition, transfer, sale, storage, transportation, transfer or carrying of explosives or explosive devices), Part 1 of Art. 223.1 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (illegal manufacture of explosives, illegal manufacture, alteration or repair of explosive devices).
Earlier, the public prosecutor asked to find Galyaviev guilty and sentence him to life imprisonment with the first five years in prison.
The lawyer, in turn, asked to release the defendant from criminal liability and refer him for treatment.
According to investigators, on May 11, 2021, 19-year-old Galyaviev, armed with a hunting rifle, as well as an explosive device made by him, attacked teachers and students of gymnasium No. 175, where he had previously studied. As a result, nine people died, including seven minors, 139 people received serious bodily harm. A criminal case was initiated.
During the investigation and in court, the defendant fully admitted his guilt.
