Deputies from all factions of the State Duma signed an appeal to the Prosecutor General Igor Krasnov, in which they asked to consider the possibility of unblocking Twitter (the social network has been blocked in the Russian Federation at the request of Roskomnadzor for more than a year – approx. ed.) in Russia. A copy of the appeal is at the disposal of RBC.
The publication indicates that the appeal was signed by 22 deputies from the parties “United Russia”, the Communist Party of the Russian Federation, the Liberal Democratic Party, “Fair Russia”, New People.
The letter says that the policy of the social network Twitter has changed with the change of ownership. According to the deputies who signed the appeal, the social network “ceased to discriminate” against the state bodies of the Russian Federation and journalists by the “personal decision” of the new owner of the platform, Elon Musk.
If the policy of the social network is aimed at neutrality in terms of the dissemination of information, the State Duma deputies consider it justified and justified to resume a productive dialogue with the leadership of Twitter, the parliamentarians note.
Recall that access to Twitter has been restricted in Russia for more than a year. Roskomnadzor stated that “inaccurate socially significant information” on the topic of SVO is being distributed on the site.
Later, the head of the State Duma Committee on Information Policy, Alexander Khinshtein, said that removing the blocking from Twitter in the Russian Federation without removing prohibited content would be contrary to Russian law. According to him, so far the social network has not removed more than 1.3 thousand prohibited materials in accordance with the requirements of Roskomnadzor.
