Ecuadorian entrepreneurs can apply for an exchange program to the United States; these are the requirements

The call is open until December 1.

Until December 1, those interested in doing a month of exchange in the United States will be able to apply for the Young Leaders of the Americas 2023 (YLAI) program.

The United States Embassy in Ecuador published the call last Wednesday. Ecuador is precisely one of the countries whose citizens can apply.

This scholarship is intended for leaders and entrepreneurs to strengthen their ability to launch and promote ideas, accelerate the success of their companies, whether commercial or social, among others. The program was launched in 2015 and more than 1,000 scholarship recipients from Latin America, the Caribbean and Canada have already passed.

The fellows will stay for four weeks and will collaborate with their host on a business leadership action plan for them to implement upon their return. You will also participate in online and in-person courses developed by IREX and Arizona State University (ASU). They will also have a closing forum and networking events with business leaders, government representatives.

They can also collaborate with partners from the United States after participating in the scholarship and can host the outgoing exchange program to their country.

For those interested, the United States government will cover all program costs and it includes:

  • J-1 visa support.
  • Roundtrip travel from the participant’s hometown to the United States and domestic travel to the U.S.
  • YLAI Business Leadership Curriculum Coursework and Tutoring.
  • Closing forum in Washington, DC.
  • Four-week internship with the host organization.
  • A limited sickness and accident benefit plan.
  • Housing and food stipend during the program.

Requirements to apply for the YLAI scholarship

  • They are between 25 and 35 years old as of January 1, 2023.
  • You are a resident and citizen of one of the participating countries.
  • Be eligible to receive a US J-1 visa.
  • Have a proven track record of successfully growing your own business or social enterprise for at least two years.
  • You are not a US citizen or permanent resident of the United States.
  • You are not an employee of the U.S. government.
  • Be proficient in reading, writing, and speaking English.

To register, you will need to fill out a digital application that can be completed in several sessions. Once you submit it, you will not be able to add more information or make changes. The answers to the form will be in English and the essay must also be an original work and if plagiarism is detected, it will be disqualified. (I)
