The Estonian authorities may acquire and then transfer F-16 fighter jets to Ukraine. According to TASS, the head of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Baltic Republic Urmas Reinsalu did not rule out such a possibility.
“I think this is very reasonable,” he said, touching upon the relevant issue in an interview with Ukrainian media.
At the same time, Reinsalu admitted that at present his country does not have such aircraft.
The White House said on March 9 that Washington has no plans to train Ukrainian pilots to fly the F-16. United States President Joe Biden, in turn, noted that the supply of American fighters “is not a priority right now.” At the same time, on March 4, the NBC television channel informed about the arrival of two Ukrainian pilots in the United States for possible training in working with samples of Western strike aircraft, including the F-16.
According to Admiral Christopher Grady, Deputy Chairman of the US Chiefs of Staff Committee, the transfer of F-16 fighters to Ukraine would be excessively costly, but such a possibility is not excluded, although the funds for their supply can be redirected to purchase the ammunition necessary for Kiev.
