Today ends a special week which, especially for Christians, should be a period of reflection. The suffering, death and resurrection of Jesus of Nazareth are commemorated after three years dedicated to conveying the very essence of the Kingdom of God, collected in parables and the manifestation of his divine and human nature.
The religiosity of our people puts great emphasis on their condemnation to death and death on the cross, which was then, in the Roman Empire, the punishment for slaves and criminals, including rebels and rebels, for which Jesus was accused, since they saw the danger in his the preaching that announced the brotherhood, as our Father says, the truth as a condition for the freedom of the individual and the people, justice, mercy, forgiveness, peace, ideas that were not a sign, nor an expression of strength. .
Because of all this, he was forced to carry the cross, mistreated, crowned with thorns, wounded with a spear, nailed to the cross until he died. But he told his disciples that he would rise on the third day and, according to the New Testament, he did. He met with his disciples, sent them to preach the good news and ascended to heaven, at the right hand of God the Father. Resurrection is the victory of life over sin and death, the hope of eternal life and the building of the Kingdom that Jesus spoke about. That is why it is most important for the Christian world.
This week, both because of the negative circumstances that the country is experiencing, and because of the favorable environment for the date, was a good opportunity to ask ourselves whether the teachings of Jesus are alive or dying crucified day by day. Not only people, animals and plants die, ideas, values, words, love, good intentions, customs, dreams also die. Will brotherhood, justice, humility, mercy, forgiveness, truth, honesty, righteousness die? The way things are between us, it seems so, and perhaps the time has come for a resurrection. To resurrect means to return to life after death, its synonyms are to revive, to re-emerge, to be born again.
According to the figures of the National Institute of Statistics and Census (INEC), in Ecuador 74.8 percent of the population is defined as Catholic, and another 15.2 percent as Evangelicals, this means that slightly more than 16 million Ecuadorians declare themselves as Christians, or then is it possible that we have allowed the death or agony of Jesus’ teachings?
The symptoms seem to indicate that. But there is a resurrection, which would not be just a resurrection of words, but living Christianity as a life commitment, a revival, a revival that shows Jesus living in every human being, as he said. : “What you did to one of the least of these brothers of mine, you did to me.”
If those more than 16 million Ecuadorians lived our faith, even our politicians would be different and the country would be qualitatively different. are we getting up? (OR)
