Three soldiers on active duty among those accused of being part of a gang that delivered war material to irregular organizations in Colombia

Ten people were arrested in twelve raids carried out early Thursday in the provinces of Carchi, Esmeraldas, Pichincha, Santo Domingo, Manabí and Loja.

Among that group of detainees, three soldiers were found on active duty, who would be part of a gang designated to deliver military weapons to irregular organizations in Colombia, to later receive drugs as payment.

This was announced by representatives of the National Police and Armed Forces, which locate the province of Santo Domingo de los Tsáchilas as the epicenter for collecting large amounts of alkaloids that this organization received after delivering war weapons to organizations that transit the border of Colombia. with Ecuador.

That, according to the first inquiries made, said Jaime Salazar, commander of the Police sub-zone of that province.

The gang was led by Ángel LI, and the investigation began last July after the seizure of 119 hand grenades and eight mortars on a road in the canton of La Concordia.

“This organization had its collection center in Santo Domingo de los Tsáchilas, where they collected large quantities of alkaloids and military weapons, the destination of which was dissident groups of the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia (FARC), in order to exchange with large quantities of substances subject to control to later be sent to different countries on the European continent through the country’s maritime ports, ”said Salazar.

There were seven operations that were carried out since July to culminate with the great operation called Larwi II, which had the support of elements of the Armed Forces, with whom the work was deployed in the six aforementioned provinces.

Jaime Navarrete, delegate of the Joint Command in Santo Domingo de los Tsáchilas, indicated that the military personnel apprehended for investigations were placed under the orders of the pertinent legal procedures and that, as has been done on other occasions, facilities will be provided from the military entity so that the corresponding inquiries are continued, with due process and the verification of their degree of responsibility in these complaints, if any.
