Russia has lost elections to three bodies of the United Nations (UN) in a week, the Associated Press reports.
Russia lost to Romania in the fight for a seat on the Commission on the Status of Women, Estonia — in the fight for membership in the executive board of UNICEF (United Nations Children’s Fund), Armenia and the Czech Republic — for a seat on the organization’s Commission on Crime Prevention and Criminal Justice.
At the same time, Russia won the elections to the Commission for Social Development by acclamation, after which the US and the UK refused to participate in the Commission, explaining their refusal by the fact that Russia “violates international law and the territorial integrity of Ukraine.” Russia was also elected to the Intergovernmental Working Group of Experts on International Accounting and Reporting Standards.
Recall that in April Russia became the chairman of the UN Security Council. According to the charter, the chairmanship is monthly transferred from one member of the Security Council to another in alphabetical order. In March, Mozambique was in this post.
