There is no panacea for overcoming the crisis in Ukraine; all parties need to create conditions for cessation of hostilities and the start of peace negotiations. According to RBC with reference to Xinhua, this was stated by Chinese leader Xi Jinping following talks with French President Emmanuel Macron.
“There is no panacea to get out of the crisis, all parties need to start with themselves and create conditions for peace negotiations, developing mutual trust,” he said.
The PRC leader stressed that China’s position on the Ukrainian issue is consistent and clear – its essence is to promote peace negotiations and a political settlement. He said China supports Europe in its desire to resolve the crisis and is ready to cooperate with the French side, calling on the international community to “show reasonable restraint and avoid actions that will further aggravate the crisis or even get it out of control.”
After the outbreak of the conflict in Ukraine, Beijing did not impose sanctions against Moscow and called on the parties to peace talks. On February 24, the anniversary of the start of the special operation, China presented its own 12-point plan to resolve the crisis. Among them: respect for the sovereignty of all states, observance of the principle of indivisibility of security, cessation of hostilities and resumption of negotiations between the parties.
