Damage to the energy, gas and thermal infrastructure of Ukraine from military operations exceeded $10 billion, and at least $1.2 billion is urgently needed for emergency repairs, follows from a comprehensive assessment of the World Bank and the United Nations Development Program.

According to a report published by the UN press service, the largest share of the damage falls on the electric power industry – about $ 6.5 billion. The damage to nuclear power plants amounted to about $ 770 million. The UN stressed that since last winter, entire settlements remained without electricity for weeks at low temperatures , it is urgent to draw up a contingency plan for the coming winter. The organization estimates the cost of emergency measures at about $1 billion.

“Now the priority is to keep light and heat,” said Jaco Cilliers, permanent representative of the UN Development Program in Ukraine.

In February, the European Commission estimated the entire damage to Ukrainian infrastructure at 129 billion euros. Experts noted that due to strikes on energy facilities, the Ukrainian economy is in danger of collapsing.
