French President Emmanuel Macron is visiting China. It is reported by RBC with reference to AFP.

The French leader will stay in China for three days. He invited the head of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, to this trip, but her participation will be limited to a trilateral meeting with Macron and Chinese President Xi Jinping. The French president has talks and a working dinner with Xi.

In addition, Macron will hold talks with Chinese Premier Li Qiang and Speaker of the Parliament Zhao Leji and visit Guangzhou, the capital of Guangdong Province, which was once led by Chinese leader Xi Zhongxun’s father.

The French president is also accompanied on this trip by executives from 60 companies, including Airbus, electric utility Electricite de France SA and train manufacturer Alstom SA. Trade and economic relations – China with both France and the EU as a whole – will be one of the topics of negotiations, wrote Politico.

Even the leaders of France, China and the EU can discuss the conflict in Ukraine. In particular, Macron expects to establish personal contact with Xi Jinping, dissuade him from rapprochement with Russian President Vladimir Putin and thereby strengthen his role in a possible negotiation process, Politico notes. In addition, according to the publication, the French president, with his trip to Beijing, may try to improve his position in the international arena, weakened by protests over pension reform and the failed visit of the British King Charles III.
