Andrés García was born on May 24, 1941 in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic. His parents are Spanish, and his father was an air force captain who received asylum in the Dominican Republic after the Spanish Civil War. From there, the family had to flee in turn from the local regime. When Andres was little, they moved to Mexico.
Before becoming a popular actor, García worked as a diving instructor in Acapulco. The film producers spotted Andrés García on a boat when he was in his twenties. In the 1960s and 1970s, he intensively began to develop his career in show business. His first major hit was the action movie “Chanoc”, in which he starred as a 25-year-old. After recording a dozen or so films, he started working in television and became a soap opera star. He went there in 1986 and appeared in the soap operas “Amame” and “Escándalo”. He has participated in over 70 films and 25 soap operas, and also tried his hand at the theater. In 1999, he received TVyNovelas and Califa de Oro awards for the main role in the telenovela “El privilegio de amar”. In 2020, after retiring from acting, he founded the YouTube channel Andrés García TV.
He was married four times. In 1967, he married Sandra Vale – together they had two sons – also actors Leonardo García and Andrés García Jr. In 1974, he became involved with Fernanda Ampudia, and their daughter Andrea García became a TV presenter and actress. In the 1980s, García married Sonia Infante, and after his last divorce, he became involved in 2013 with Margarita Portillo.
