US First Lady Jill Biden will represent the United States at the coronation of King Charles III of Great Britain in London in May. According to TASS, US President Joe Biden informed the monarch about this during a telephone conversation.
“The President congratulated the King on his upcoming coronation and said US First Lady Jill Biden is looking forward to attending the ceremony,” the White House said in a statement.
“The President also announced his desire to meet with the King in the UK in the future,” the document says.
Earlier, The Daily Telegraph, citing sources, reported that instead of the head of the White House, his wife could come to the ceremony. According to the publication, trips abroad are very exhausting for the 80-year-old American president, in connection with which the Washington administration is trying to reduce their number to a minimum, leaving only the most necessary foreign visits on the schedule. Given Biden’s trip to Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland in mid-April, a second visit to the British Isles in a month is considered an unlikely scenario, the paper said.
