Security services are seizing passports from Russian high-ranking officials and managers of state-owned companies, fearing their possible flight or information leaks, The Financial Times writes, citing knowledgeable sources.
According to the publication, security officials have restricted public sector employees from traveling abroad, and some high-ranking officials have been required to hand over their foreign passports. Press Secretary of the President of the Russian Federation Dmitry Peskov confirmed to the publication that restrictions on travel abroad for some people working in “sensitive” areas have been tightened. “There are stricter rules for this. Somewhere they are formalized, and somewhere they depend on a specific decision. <…> about specific employees,” he explained.
“Since the beginning of the special military operation, more attention has been paid to this issue,” Peskov added.
