In the St. Petersburg art space mArs (Marsovo Pole, 3) on Wednesday, April 5, the second part of the final meeting with the historian Daniil Kotsiubinsky will take place on the topic of the fatal cycles of Russian history. At the event, which will be held as part of the Kvartirnik project, the search for an answer to the question of the reasons for “Putin’s political longevity” will continue. The start is at 19:00.

As if on the eve of the meeting of the Kvartirnik regulars, Russian President Vladimir Putin on March 31 unveiled an updated concept of Russia’s foreign policy. In this 43-page document, for the first time, it was officially stated that Russia is an “original state-civilization.” It is worth recalling that the final lecture course “Fatal Cycles of Russian History” is devoted to a detailed story about the nature and basic features of the development of Russian civilization as a special cultural and historical project.

At the final meeting, Daniil Kotsyubinsky will tell you what milestones Russia has passed in the period after the successful start in the 2000s of the next state-restoration (“counter-reformation”) cycle of Russian history, how Putin and his team managed to maintain the rating of a national leader for such a long period of history at the initially won height and prevent its fall due to, at first glance, objective reasons: fatigue from the “personal monotony” of the supreme power, unfulfilled initial hopes for a quick solution to the main socio-economic problems, for Russia to become one of the “five leading economic powers of the world” etc.

It will become clear how the Kremlin leadership prevented the “split of the elites”, the electoral and street opposition was politically neutralized, the negative experiences of society were successfully channeled into channels that are not dangerous for the authorities, as a result of which, politically, Russia became a stable and implicitly controlled by the supreme power system.

The balance of partial mistakes and successful creative political moves of the Russian authorities over the past period will be drawn up, based on its super-task — strengthening its “autocratic legitimacy”, as well as the super-goal — shaping the Russian global story and presenting it to the West, primarily to the United States (a landmark stage of which, in particular, was the presented Foreign Policy Concept).

From this point of view, such fateful events of the Putin era as the “Munich speech” in 2007, the armed clash with Georgia and the recognition of South Ossetia and Abkhazia in 2008, the “castling” of 2008-12, the annexation of Crimea in 2014 and subsequent a period of sanctions confrontation with the West, which essentially became the second “cold war”, which grew into an armed conflict between Russia and Ukraine, supported by leading Western countries.

Based on all the previous experience of Russia’s development as an “original state-civilization”, the features of the current segment of Russian history will be analyzed and the prospects of Russia’s fatal-cyclical development predetermined by centuries of civilizational inertia will be outlined.

Tickets can be purchased before the start of the event.
