I always say that the best gift you can give me is time, because it is the only thing that cannot be returned. I think it is important to be fully aware that the minutes continue to flow one after the other and that we are responsible for the things, people or situations to which we give these moments of our life. Recently, I’ve been pretty sad and angry about giving in to something I promised myself I wouldn’t do again, but when I was really hard on myself, I thought the thing I was regretting was stealing my time and attention. My life was flowing down the wrong channel. So I took a long bath and then I did what I always recommend to my daughters and students: I stood in front of the mirror to look carefully at myself, find something positive and say it out loud to remind myself once again that my value is greater than that mistake. which disappointed me so much.
Therefore, I believe that it is necessary to remember that nothing and no one should steal minutes of peace, tranquility and well-being. We own our destiny. It is inevitable to make mistakes, but it is indicated to continue. It is important to have clear goals that force us to get up as many times as necessary. In addition, with the passing and weight of years, we realize that traveling is more comfortable with a light backpack. Let’s learn to let go of what hurts us and prefer the wound left by absence to a life of constant suffering. We know that the wound will heal, but there is no return from a wasted life. We accept that everything happens, good and bad. We acknowledge that absolute and permanent happiness does not exist and that the term “ever after” refers only to the endings of Disney stories. We also know that people we have loved deeply can become strangers. Ghosts of the immediate past and that memory is capable of erasing memories, even the happiest ones.
(…) there is a moment when we have to stop and check if we are living, surviving or just breathing…
This way there is no time to waste. We need to find a balance by doing what brings personal satisfaction and at the same time challenges our intellect. In that order, it’s important to surround yourself with empathetic and respectful people who recognize our worth as human beings. In contrast, leading a double life, where dialogues, meetings have to be hidden and dirt marks the agenda, eventually has a negative impact on health, reflecting on our body. With stress, there may be difficulty sleeping or breathing, and one often tries to divert thoughts or avoid guilt through vices, but the risk of body and mind collapse is inevitable.
So, there is a moment when we have to stop and check if we are living, surviving or just breathing by inertia and acting automatically. Today begins the fourth month of the year, we are in time to leave behind the nostalgia and frustration of what could not, did not or will never be, to gratefully accept reality and give ourselves the opportunity to start over, with more will and less fear, I think the words of Martin Luther King to his own: “It is always the right time to do what is right”.
