The situation in Nagorno-Karabakh and Afghanistan remains tense and creates risks of destabilization in the countries of the Collective Security Treaty Organization. According to Interfax, this was stated by CSTO Secretary General Imangali Tasmagambetov.
“Tension persists in the Caucasus region as a result of many years of contradictions between Armenia and Azerbaijan,” Tasmagambetov said at an expanded meeting of the leadership of the CSTO secretariat and the joint headquarters.
According to him, due to the risks associated with the situation in Nagorno-Karabakh and on the Armenian-Azerbaijani border, the situation is fraught with serious destabilization.
“There is unrest in the Central Asian region – the danger of extremist ideology and terrorist groups penetrating into the territory of the CSTO allies is growing. Of particular concern are the complex threats emanating from the territory of Afghanistan,” Tasmagambetov said.
He stressed that the CSTO is constantly working to improve the mechanism for countering existing and emerging challenges and threats.
