After intelligence work carried out by the National Police units in the Camilo Ponce Enríquez canton, Azuay province, they managed to locate a mine that served as a storage center for at least twenty firearms, including rifles for use. military and police.

The operation was carried out at dawn this Thursday, with the intervention of elite units of the Police and the prosecutor Jean Carlos Almeida.

“Information was obtained that there was a storage of weapons in this place, which led to obtaining the court order …, we found several weapons for military and police use such as rifles, explosive material, ammunition,” he said.

The prosecutor indicated that there are investigations because they presume that the weapons come from criminal groups also related to drug trafficking.

The explosive material was stored inside a warehouse that was also used as a room for the workers of this mine, located in a rural area of ​​the Azuayo canton.

In that area, several workers were found who are presumed to be engaged in illegal activities, since the mine had a stamp of suspension of activities.
