The height of the snow cover by Wednesday morning in St. Petersburg ranged from 14 cm in Lomonosov to 18 cm in Kronstadt. In the city center, the height of the snow cover is 16 cm, almost as it was in December, said Alexander Kolesov, the city’s chief forecaster.
“The atmospheric front covered part of the western territory of the Leningrad region with snow, but St. Petersburg got to a greater extent. At 9 am in the city of fresh snow, and the snow was a little more than 12 hours, from 10.5 cm in Kronstadt to 13.6 cm in the city center. 12.5 cm fell in Lomonosov, 13.3 cm in Kolpino,” Kolesov said.
Precipitation this March is over 200%. But during these days, up to 16 mm of precipitation fell in the form of snow, which is up to 45% of the monthly norm.
Kolesov also explained that during the night the atmospheric front slowly moved east through St. Petersburg. This afternoon it will continue its movement to the east, so most of the day the precipitation in the form of snow will remain.
