Real hunger, psychological problems or stress are not always to blame for our desire to find “something tasty” in the refrigerator. Sometimes the reason is on the surface – in the atmosphere in the kitchen. According to Doctor Peter, nutritionist Olga Dekker said that some things, dishes, color schemes in the interior, and even pieces of furniture could be to blame.
She named 10 things in the kitchen that increase appetite.
1. Large plates, bowls and glasses. Studies show that people who eat from large plates often consume more food than those who eat from small ones. Psychologically, a large plate creates the illusion that a serving of food is smaller than it really is.
Tip: Use smaller utensils and cutlery. This will help create the illusion that you are eating more than you really are and reduce the rate at which food is absorbed.
2. Large tables and thick tablecloths. They, too, can give the illusion that the portion of food we eat is smaller than in reality. This can lead to overeating.
Tip: Use smaller tables and light tablecloths.
3. Bright walls and furniture. Bright colors on walls and kitchen furniture can stimulate the appetite and increase the desire to eat.
Tip: Try using a calmer and more neutral color scheme on walls, furniture, and accessories. For example, gray, white or beige colors.
4. Too soft chairs and sofas. Comfort and softness can encourage you to stay longer at the table and end up eating more.
Tip: Replace soft chairs and sofas with more rigid ones. This will help reduce the time you spend at the table.
5. TV or computer. If your kitchen has a TV, or you take a computer with you to the table, there is a high risk of overeating. All this can distract from food. And in the end, you won’t even notice how you eat too much while watching the next series or endless scrolling through social networks.
Tip: Remove the TV or computer from the kitchen, or at least keep them off during meals. So you can focus on the process, better smell and taste food and not overeat.
