Five employees of the local office of the American company Mintz Group were detained in Beijing, Reuters reports. The company said that all the detainees are Chinese citizens.
Also, the Chinese authorities closed all operational activities of the company.
The Mintz Group said it was ready to work with the Chinese authorities to “resolve any misunderstanding that may have led to these events” and noted that they have not received official notice from the Chinese side about the proceedings. In addition, the company demanded the release of employees of the Beijing office.
Chinese Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Mao Ning said she did not know anything about the incident.
The agency, citing a source, clarifies that the incident occurred on March 20. The company’s office was raided, the detained employees were taken out of Beijing, there is no contact with them.
The Mintz Group has its only office in mainland China in Beijing. The company offers its clients due diligence, corruption investigations, background checks and asset tracing.
