“The government has approved a resolution to expand the construction of fortifications. About 1 billion hryvnias are provided for the corresponding program in the budget,” the message on the website of the government of Ukraine says.
The construction of fortifications will be carried out by the regional military administrations of Ukraine together with the Ministry of Defense and the military command, Shmyhal said.
The report does not specify in which regions of Ukraine it is planned to build additional fortifications.
The Ukrainian authorities are already building military fortifications on the border with Belarus. On March 3, the head of the Rivne regional administration, Vitaliy Koval, announced that the Ukrainian military began to equip the second line of anti-tank ditches in the region as part of strengthening fortifications on the border with Belarus. On February 28, Andriy Demchenko, a representative of the State Border Service of Ukraine, said that Ukraine had been strengthening its positions on the border with unrecognized Transnistria for a year, in particular, carrying out fortification work, which is still ongoing.
