Dogu Perincek, a candidate for the presidency of Turkey and leader of the Vatan (Motherland) party, said that if he wins, Ankara will leave NATO, RIA Novosti reports.
According to Perincek, polls show that 80% of Turkish residents consider the US a threat, and 70% call Russia and China friends. “Under our rule, Turkey will definitely leave NATO, because NATO is the only threat to Turkey,” the presidential candidate said.
In addition, the politician added that he does not recognize Western sanctions against Russia and, if he wins, he will fight them. “Sanctions against Russia are sanctions against Turkey,” he stressed, promising that he would “seize the golden opportunity to fight these sanctions” and “strengthen economic ties with Russia.”
Perincek also “strongly stressed that Crimea is part of the territory of the Russian Federation” and promised that the Rodina party would recognize the new republics as part of the Russian Federation.
General elections in Turkey will be held on May 14. The people of the country will elect a president and 600 members of parliament. Dog Perincek is 80 years old. It is not the first time he is going to run for president. In the 2018 elections, 98,926 people (0.2%) voted for him.
