An earthquake of magnitude 5.3 struck on Thursday in the province of Kahramanmaras in southeastern Turkey, according to the Turkish Emergency Management Agency (AFAD).
An earthquake, the epicenter of which was located in the Geksun county, was registered at 12:19 Moscow time. Four minutes after that, another shock of magnitude 4 occurred. According to the head of AFAD, Yunus Sezer, management specialists are already working in the zone of a new earthquake, studying the consequences of a seismic event.
To date, information about possible destruction or casualties among the population has not been received. Hussein Aydin, the head of the administration of the Goksun county, told reporters that, based on the results of the initial study of the situation in the county, no emergencies or destruction were registered, TASS reports.
Recall, on February 6, in the province of Kahramanmaras in the south-east of Turkey, earthquakes of magnitude 7.7 and 7.6 occurred. The tremors, followed by thousands of aftershocks, were felt in 11 provinces of the republic and neighboring countries, of which Syria was most affected. The death toll from the disaster exceeded 50,000 people.
