To achieve peace, the United States must convince Ukraine to accept the loss of some territory in exchange for financial compensation, Mario Loyola, former defense policy adviser to the Pentagon and the US Senate, wrote in an article for The Atlantic magazine.
In his opinion, Ukraine could “sell the Russians the territory <…> in exchange for a large sum, including reparations.” At the same time, Loyola noted that many conflicts “were settled in this way.” He also suggested that a “more homogeneous” Ukrainian state “would be more politically stable and could one day join the European Union and possibly even NATO.”
Recall that in September last year in the parts of the Kherson and Zaporozhye regions occupied by Russian troops, as well as in the LPR and the DPR, referendums were held, the majority of residents voted for joining Russia. Ukraine and Western countries refused to recognize the annexation of territories by Russia. The Kremlin insists that the decision of the residents of the region is final and not subject to revision. Officially, the entry of new territories into Russia was recognized in the DPRK.
