The exhibition will be in the Chapel of Man.
This Thursday, November 18, the Colombian-Ecuadorian artist Juliana Plexxo will present her work in homage to maestro Oswaldo Guayasamín. The event will take place from 7:00 p.m. in the Capilla del Hombre, in Quito.
The work, which led two years of production, will have a mural that will be unveiled at the event and will feature art in virtual reality. Attendees will be able to view on their cell phone (through an application) a series of Virtual animations that will bring Oswaldo Guayasamín back to life.
Juliana, apart from being a muralist, is dedicated to the technique of engraving, for ten years she has lived in Barcelona, Spain, currently she is the the only Latin American artist who works in Virgili Barbará’s studio, son of the teacher Joan Barbará. Legends of art such as Pablo Picasso, Joan Miró and Salvador Dalí.
The tribute was created by Plexxo without imagining that could be exhibited in the same Chapel of Man, of the Guayasamín foundation.
This work will be exhibited to the world from his workshop, in Spain, through which he intends to keep alive the history of the Ecuadorian artist.
“I want to Guayasamín have a tribute as it should. The master’s painting marked me since I was a child, it has given me too much power, because it is a duality between his brushstrokes very rough and strong that at the same time transmit tenderness, sweetness. I think that for me it is a benchmark not only for Ecuador, but also worldwide ”, he added.
Juliana Plexxo was born in Colombia in 1993, his painting is based on the colors red, white and black because from his childhood he grew up together with his father, in a bullring. He does not consider himself either for or against bullfighting, but his inspiring muse is bulls. Thus, the eyes in his works are bulls.
Two years ago he left the artistic world, in Ecuador he lived since he was 12 years old and traveled to Europe to study at the university. “If one day I have to return or be buried, I want it to be here in Ecuador,” emphasized the artist. (I)
