Representatives of Israel and Palestine met in Sharm el-Sheikh in Egypt to achieve a reduction in tension between the parties. It is reported by Interfax with reference to the Associated Press.

The Egyptian Foreign Ministry noted that the meeting will be attended not only by high-ranking representatives of political circles and security spheres not only from Israel and Palestine, but also from Egypt, the United States and Jordan.

The organizers of the talks want to ease tensions ahead of the Muslim holy month of Ramadan, which this year will last from March 23 to April 21. At the same time, from April 5 to April 12, Jews celebrate Passover.

This is the second such meeting organized with the assistance of Cairo, Amman and Washington. At the previous one, held in February, the parties promised to help de-escalate tensions, but then a new surge of violence in the region followed.

In the first two months of the new Israeli government, under Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, clashes between Israelis and Palestinians intensified. In just about a year, more than 200 Palestinians and more than 40 Israelis were killed.
