Investigators opened a criminal case on causing death by negligence after the death on Tuesday of a 14-year-old schoolgirl at a physical education lesson in the Vyborgsky district of the city. According to TASS, this was reported in the press service of the Main Investigation Department of the Russian Investigative Committee for St. Petersburg.
“In order to establish through investigation all the circumstances of the crime committed, as well as the causes and conditions that contributed to the incident, the investigating authorities initiated a criminal case on the grounds of a crime under Part 2 of Art. 109 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation “Causing death by negligence,” the report says.
The incident occurred on the morning of March 14 at school No. 482 on Fyodor Abramov Street. A seventh-grade student lost consciousness and fell during a warm-up run at a physical education lesson. As TASS was informed in the press service of the district administration, the teacher urgently called a doctor, who began to provide the child with first aid, at the same time they called an ambulance, and later an intensive care team also arrived at the scene. However, the girl could not be saved.
After examining the scene, questioning eyewitnesses and school staff, the investigators seized the minor’s medical documents and ordered expert examinations. A TASS source in law enforcement said that the cause of the teenager’s death was heart disease. The diagnosis was made back in 2016, while the girl was not released from physical education classes, which could provoke an exacerbation of the disease.
