The scandal surrounding Patryk Vega’s film. Complaint to the National Labor Inspectorate regarding daily wages for statisticians

Piotr Szumlewicz, the chairman of the Związkowa Alternative Trade Union, drew attention to the offer made by the Edwin Film Acting Agency to potential extras who want to appear in Patryk Vega’s new production. He announced that if the agency did not adjust the offered rates to the provisions of the Labor Code, it would take further steps. Although the announcement was modified, the remuneration did not change. The case went to PIP.

The Trade Union Trade Union Alternative filed a complaint with the National Labor Inspectorate after ineffective intervention in the law of the rates offered to extras who would like to take part in the latest film by Patryk Vega, known for example from “Pitbull” and “Kobiet Mafia”.

AVANTI24 OFFERS:

Iron rules and wages below minimum

Relatively little is known about the new production of Vega. The action of the film with the working title “Trinity” was set in the 1960s, which is a novelty in the director’s filmography. On March 13-15, 2023, shooting began in Wrocław – the film crew appeared in Przedmieście Oławskie. At the beginning of the month, the Edwin Film Acting Agency published an announcement addressed to potential extras who would like to take part in the event. Women and men aged 18 to 75 were sought.

The rate: PLN 130 per hand for a shooting day and PLN 50 per hand for fittings. Fittings are mandatory. People who will be present at the fittings and will not appear during the shooting day will NOT receive a fee.

– said the post, which has since been deleted. Even then, the rates caused quite an outcry among those commenting on the casting post in social media.

The shooting day lasts up to 12 hours, which is approximately PLN 11 per hour.

The compound responds. The case was referred to PIP despite an earlier warning

Recently, not only Internet users, but also the trade union Trade Unions Alternative intervened in the matter of the rates offered to extras. Its chairman, Piotr Szumlewicz, referred to the Labor Code.

Patryk Vega’s shocking job offer. A well-known director offers PLN 130 net remuneration for a day of shooting, which lasts 11-12 hours. […] This means that Vega offers about PLN 11 net per hour! This offer is against the Labor Code! We would like to remind you that the minimum hourly wage in Poland is PLN 22.80 gross, i.e. PLN 18 net. We demand an immediate modification of the rates. Otherwise, we will be forced to file a complaint with the National Labor Inspectorate.

he warned. The Edwin Film agency removed the controversial fragment of the offer from the content of the announcement, but no additional steps were taken. Szumlewicz therefore reported the matter to the National Labor Inspectorate. He writes about breaking the law twice.

There was a double violation of labor law here. Firstly, there are many indications that the agency unlawfully replaced mandate contracts with contracts for specific work. Meanwhile, the work of extras meets the conditions of the mandate contract (or full-time job). Secondly, the minimum hourly rate from January 1, 2023 is PLN 22.80 gross, i.e. PLN 18 net under the mandate contract.

– informs the trade union Trade Union Alternative. There is no official PIP position yet. Director Patryk Vega did not comment on the case.
