As a country, we are appalled by the accumulation of tragedies that befall us, of which we are mostly victims, spectators and commentators. Added to the political collapses are climate disasters, enveloping the tornado of insecurity, children and young people who are the perpetrators of kidnappings and deaths, news of the failure of banks in the United States that we no longer feel strangers to, warplanes approaching various regions of the world, and we wonder: what what should we do?, what will we do?

Different actors, social, political and economic groups defend and set their demands according to their interests as if they were the only valid ones, without much possibility of agreement, in a country that cannot make a common, multiple fabric out of its remains. … and diverse, but interconnected and supported.

It seems that the only right we have and still have is uncertainty. And that is more than unpleasant, both for people and for the state. The articles published this Monday in this newspaper, Orden ajeno, by Simon Pachan, and ¿En combo?, ¿será?, by León Roldós, express from different angles and clearly break through which I lean over with real pleasure.

A discredited Assembly, which does not question and refine its own ranks, setting itself up as the judge of the Executive Power and the President, which does not direct its course. Not to mention the judiciary and the Citizens’ Participation Council with their sketches of solutions and cancellations…

No one can do it alone, they need to unite their own and collective vulnerabilities…

This collective mess reveals our deep flaws. Facing our reality can open the door to creating something different in the face of adversity that unites us. Recognize your vulnerabilities and systemic imperfections, so that we can deepen the capabilities we must build together.

Just as one cannot stagnate in the past idealized in its values and victimized in its current consequences, one cannot build a state if others ignore it and in a certain way despise it.

A change of government will not change the underlying realities, because this chaos reveals our collective shortcomings. On the contrary, it will make them worse if we continue to look for an empowered Savior who frees us from insecurity, poverty and injustice, the breeding ground of the narco-state we are becoming.

No one can do it alone, we need to unite our own and common vulnerabilities in order to know that we can get out of the abyss, like the countries that rose from the devastation of wars.

When we at least superficially overcome political instability and security becomes a possible reality, it is very necessary to get to know each other, as different regions and cultures. Most of the Ecuadorians I visit do not know how many provinces Ecuador has, how people live, what they celebrate, what their favorite food is. Fewer know how many languages are spoken in the country. Geography shapes cities, culture and people’s work, shows them as they are. We need to encourage collective exchanges of young people, as part of the educational program, to get to know the soul of the country and build it together. (OR)
