The Peace Committee of the city of Chania on the island of Crete held a rally on Saturday against the indecent behavior of the military from the American aircraft carrier George W. Bush, which entered the US base in Souda Bay on the island. It is reported by TASS with reference to the information portal Flashnews.gr.

The committee held a protest outside city hall to denounce the “unacceptable” behavior of US and NATO sailors on the aircraft carrier USS George W. Bush, which sparked a “series of incidents in Chania” on Friday. At the request of the audience, the mayor came out to them, who was handed a protest resolution. At the meeting that followed, Chairman of the Chania Peace Committee Manolis Papadomanolakis demanded that the city authorities respond quickly to the “drunken antics” of the US military.

In the photographs published by the portal, participants in the rally near the city hall hold banners with the slogans “NATO, get out of the Aegean”, “American butchers are undesirable in our city”, “Immediately close the base in Suda”, “We want Suda to be a port of nations”, “No spending on NATO, money to build schools and houses for workers.”

Crete is home to the largest US naval base in the Mediterranean. As reported earlier on Saturday by the Greek information portal of the left forces 902.gr, the Chania Peace Committee called on residents to protest at the city hall, noting that 6,000 sailors and military from the aircraft carrier George W. Bush again arrived at the naval base in Souda for relaxation at a time when all of Greece is mourning the dozens who died as a result of a railway accident. The organization said there were “drunken antics” in the city of American soldiers, some of whom “injected themselves”, and, according to the committee, there were fights between the US military.
