The US Department of Defense on Monday, March 13, will request $170 billion to replenish ammunition sent to Ukraine and long-range missiles that may be needed in a possible conflict with China, Bloomberg reports, citing an internal Pentagon document. The request must be published as part of the fiscal year 2024 budget disclosure beginning October 1.
According to the document, the Ministry of Defense will request $76.8 billion for the Navy and Marine Corps, of which $32.8 billion will be used to build new ships; $61 billion for the Air Force, including the US Space Force; $24.4 billion for the ground forces.
The total amount of the request is more than $300 billion. With these funds, the US Department of Defense intends to purchase 541 Javelin anti-tank missile systems, 28 HIMARS MLRS and 5016 missiles for them, 831 air-to-air missiles for fighters, 91 long-range anti-ship missiles for the Navy and a new a version of the American Stinger man-portable anti-aircraft missile system to destroy drones and other low-flying air targets.
In addition, the Pentagon plans to sponsor the development of a new Sentinel intercontinental ballistic missile – the ministry is going to spend $ 3.7 billion on its creation. The department will also need $ 3 billion to develop the B-21 bomber and $ 2.3 billion for the Next Generation Air Dominance program, which is intended to replace the F-22 fighters.
