Hungary may have to rethink its relationship with Russia in the future due to changing geopolitical realities, Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban said.
According to Bloomberg, the Hungarian leader expressed the opinion that Russian-European relations after the end of the conflict in Ukraine would need to be restored, however, according to him, “this is far from reality.” “That is why Hungary needs to think carefully about what kind of relations we can establish and maintain with Russia in the field of foreign policy and economy in the next 10-15 years,” Orban stressed.
At the same time, he noted that Budapest is interested in maintaining ties with Moscow, including because of Hungary’s “energy dependence” on Russia.
Recall that Hungary is one of the few EU countries that has refused to supply weapons to Ukraine and has repeatedly advocated easing anti-Russian sanctions. Orban’s statements have repeatedly provoked criticism in Kyiv.
