Since the beginning of last year, more than 22,000 Russians have entered Argentina. At the same time, more than half – 60% – of them have already left the country, writes Bloomberg, citing data from the Argentine Ministry of Immigration.
The peak of the arrival of Russians in the country occurred in the fourth quarter of 2022. More than 4,500 Russians arrived in January, four times more than a year earlier, and in February, 33 women in their third trimester of pregnancy arrived on a single Ethiopian Airlines flight via Addis Ababa, Bloomberg points out.
As previously reported in the migration service of Argentina, six pregnant Russian women were denied entry to Argentina, as they could not clarify the purpose of the trip. The country’s authorities suspected them of trying to give the child Argentine citizenship by birthright.
Employees of the service interviewed 350 pregnant Russian women who entered the country in recent months. In addition, Argentina also began to suspend and cancel the residence permit of Russians who received it through the birth of a child, but did not stay in the country.
