Deputies from the ruling party coalition in the State Assembly (unicameral parliament) of Hungary do not consider the issue of admission of Finland and Sweden to NATO resolved, said the speaker of the Hungarian Parliament Laszlo Kever.
According to him, on March 7 and 8, a parliamentary delegation from Budapest will visit Helsinki and Stockholm to “clarify controversial issues” with their counterparts from Finland and Sweden “before the State Assembly votes on the entry of these countries into NATO,” TASS reports. with reference to Hungarian television. Kever said the trip was “necessary” as members of pro-government factions “feel anxious and doubtful.”
The speaker said that the deputies were unhappy with the “attacks on Hungary” by politicians from Finland and Sweden in recent years. According to him, Hungary was “unreasonably accused of violating democratic norms and the rule of law.” According to Kever, EU politicians “do not have the right to speak about the internal politics of Hungary and evaluate it,” by doing so they “fundamentally undermined confidence” and now “it is necessary to clarify the question of what will happen next.”
