Ukrainian Defense Minister Oleksiy Reznikov sent a letter to his EU counterparts asking them to provide Kyiv with 250,000 artillery shells every month. This was reported by the Financial Times, which obtained the letter.
This amount of ammunition is needed to make up for the existing shortage.
The minister pointed out that Ukraine produced on average 110,000 155 mm shells per month.
“If we were not limited by the number of artillery shells available, we could use the full load of ammunition, which is 594,000 shells per month,” he said. Kyiv’s minimum requirement, according to Reznikov, is 356,000 shells, or 60% of the total ammunition load.
The Minister also sent a letter to the head of EU diplomacy, Josep Borrell, in which he expressed support for the initiative to increase the production of ammunition in Europe to support Ukraine. It is planned to allocate 1 billion euros for this, these funds will be used to reimburse the costs of EU countries in connection with sending shells to Kyiv.
