Frequent illness and lack of enjoyment of the work done are the main signs of burnout at work, which are detrimental to mental health. Business psychologist Veronika Kromberger told Gazeta.Ru about this.
According to the expert, today the tightening of social requirements for people of different ages and genders leads to the fact that most people are involuntarily under constant stress, and although this mobilizes all the resources of the body, after a while it is necessary to compensate for the damage – burnout. Its first sign is frequent illnesses.
Kromberger clarified that chronic stress destroys not only the immune system, but also the structure of the personality. From this, frequent ailments begin, there is less time for new achievements, the person is even more upset, and so on in a circle.
“If you get sick often and for no apparent reason, this indicates that the level of stress in the body is so high that it directly affects the decrease in immunity,” the psychologist stated.
In addition, a clear sign of the negative impact of work on the body is the lack of pleasure from the process of its implementation. In addition, the state when even the results do not cause positive emotions is called apathy.
“Often, after apathy, there comes a stage of aggression – groundless irritation with colleagues, bosses, employees, and often even with close people – a partner or a child. The surrounding people become a reservoir for draining the negative energy received at work, ”said the psychologist.
If you have found at least one sign in yourself, then, as Kromberger says, you need to watch the sources of stress. Whatever it was, it is very important to get rid of the negativity: change profession, raise the check, fire subordinates, change the climate in the company (if this is within your competence), transfer to another department, or even change jobs to one with more favorable conditions.
