The Bank of Russia will present updated banknotes in denominations of 1,000 and 5,000 rubles in the summer. According to RBC, this was announced by the deputy chairman of the regulator Sergey Belov.

“The modernized banknotes will have an improved design, they will have a significant security complex, they will be more wear-resistant, so the modernization as a whole will provide reliable protection against counterfeiting and improve the quality of banknotes in circulation,” he said.

The choice of elements, symbols, which are located on these banknotes, was “made, let’s say, widely,” Belov noted. According to him, the design was discussed with an expert group.

“The color scheme, at the last press conference, we said that it would be close to the existing banknotes, so there will definitely not be any intrigue here,” he added.

In August last year, Belov said that on a banknote of 1000 rubles. in particular, views of the Nizhny Novgorod Kremlin, the building of the Nizhny Novgorod Fair, the Chkalov Stairs, the State Bank building, the Nizhny Novgorod stadium, the monument to Maxim Gorky, the Volga River may appear. On a banknote of 5,000 rubles, according to him, they can depict, among other things, Sevastyanov’s house, a dam of a pond on the Iset River, a panoramic view of the city of Yekaterinburg, a monument to the soldiers of the Ural Volunteer Tank Corps, buildings – monuments of constructivism, the Ural Range.

Now the 1000-ruble note depicts the sights of Yaroslavl (a monument to Yaroslav the Wise, a chapel against the backdrop of the Kremlin, and others), and the 5000-ruble bill shows the iconic places of Khabarovsk, including the monument to N.N. Muravyov-Amursky, and the city embankment.

The Central Bank announced a change in the design of banknotes last summer at the presentation of the updated hundred-ruble note. The new 100-rouble note now features symbols of Moscow — a fragment of the Spasskaya Tower of the Moscow Kremlin with chimes, Zaryadye Park, and the Moscow State University building on Sparrow Hills. The Apollo quadriga on the building of the Bolshoi Theater was removed. The reverse side of the banknote is decorated with the Rzhev memorial to the Soviet soldier.
