In this country, which seems to suffer from epilepsy because it lives convulsed by dramas and tragedies that happen every day, stemming from insecurity, mainly caused by the drug trade; bribery, attacks on public property and disobedience of the law, among many other things, compounded by the high cost of living, because there is not enough money for the most basic needs, it is normal for people to cry out for measures that fix so many ills.

But, since we live in a legally regulated society, we obey the legal order that regulates our activities and which we must adhere to. So, for the election of our governors, there are rules that determine how this can be done and a constitutional mandate, which determines the periods for which they are appointed and how they will complete them under certain circumstances. The percentages of voters, i.e. people’s representatives in the National Assembly, who are obliged to make decisions in a democratic manner, are also prescribed.

Weaknesses of democracy

The word “democracy”, which could be translated as “power of the people”, was invented by the Greeks in ancient Athens when they proposed the establishment of a system of government that would include the majority of the population, to decide on issues that were very important to them citizens, so that they would not one or a minority group decided on issues that concern or affect a large part of the social conglomerate.

(…) We ask that the regular channels for terminating the presidential mandate be respected, if the majority decides so.

When we went to the polls to elect the president among others, we submitted to the odds that we had made a good choice. Unfortunately, we are witnessing an obvious public dissatisfaction caused by multiple reasons, and voices are heard in the National Assembly expressing the desire to end the presidential mandate with a political trial, in accordance with Art. 129 of the Constitution, for which 92 votes are required, along with the decision of the Constitutional Court on admissibility, if it is proven that he committed criminal offenses against state security, extortion, accepting bribes, embezzlement or illegal enrichment, genocide, torture, forced disappearance of persons, kidnapping or murder for political reasons or reasons of conscience.

On the other hand, there is a minority of Ecuadorians, led by one of the indigenous leaders and some social movements, who have been demanding the president’s resignation since March 7 and announcing mobilization, which will again destabilize the state. land and losses for all. The June riot last year, which lasted 18 days, meant a loss of 1,115.4 million dollars. The legal remedy, in this case, is provided for in Article 105 of the Magna Carta, the revocation of the mandate, not rioting in the streets, or chaos, or vandalism, or attacks on public and private property, nor stopping transport, nor closing roads, nor bullets, nor any disorder.

Ecuadorians have chosen to live in a democracy. Therefore, we ask that the regular channels for terminating the presidential mandate be respected, if the majority decides to do so. (OR)
