In Greece, near the city of Tempi, a major railway accident occurred: a freight and passenger train collided, according to EPT.
The incident took place around midnight at the Evangelismos station. As a result of the collision, three carriages of the passenger train derailed, starting a fire. The reason for the incident has not yet been named. Iefimerida writes that for some reason both trains ended up on the same track.
According to the governor of Thessaly, the first and second carriages of the passenger train were completely destroyed as a result of the accident. “All [пассажиры] released. Rescuers, unfortunately, are now looking only for those who died, ”he added.
A total of 350 people were on the train, Hellenic Train reported. According to the fire service, 26 people died, 85 were injured, the condition of 25 of them is assessed as serious.
