The naval, air and ground forces of the French Armed Forces, as well as the military from the allied countries, are conducting large-scale exercises on the territory of the republic. This was reported by TASS with reference to the statement of the Minister of the Armed Forces of France Sebastien Lecornu.

“The most ambitious inter-army exercise of recent decades, Orion 2023, began this week,” Lecornu wrote on the social network. “They will last more than two months and are designed to prepare our forces for the most difficult situations of modern combat, to show that we have armies capable of demonstrating efficiency and endurance in conditions of high-intensity conflict.”

The minister did not indicate the number of participants, but earlier it was announced that it was going to involve 20,000 people. According to the information on the website of the French military department, they will be divided into four stages, the first of which involves the operational planning of the operation for 40 thousand people.

At the second stage, 7,000 military personnel will be simultaneously involved in 14 departments in the south of France. In the Mediterranean Sea, according to the press service of the French Navy, the presence of 30 ships and 50 aircraft of the armed forces of Great Britain, Germany, Greece, Spain, Italy, the Netherlands, the United States and France is planned. In parallel, operations will be carried out in cyberspace. In general, we are talking about an “air-sea campaign in a highly protected zone” from late February to mid-March.

The third stage involves “civil-military work” to “adapt political cycles and decisions to the conditions of the current crisis.” The fourth phase focuses on simulating a large-scale, divisional-level air and ground operation in order to achieve air supremacy.

Orion is a full-scale operation that demonstrates the full will and ability of France to participate in the coalition as a framework nation and in a conflict that can reach high intensity, ”the French Ministry of Armed Forces said in a statement.
