She confessed that she would not baptize her child and it began. “Poles are not ready for this”

– What right do I have to decide about another person’s life? Apparently, each of us has free will – writes Julita. The opinions of Internet users and Internet users are very divided: “Keep as far as possible from religious ignorance”, “Let your child choose what education to choose”.

The topic of the Church and religion in Poland evokes many extreme emotions, especially if someone decides to take a step that departs from long-standing traditions. This is perfectly visible in the reactions of Internet users to the letter sent to our editorial office by one of the readers.

She decided not to baptize the child: “When he grows up, he will decide what religion I want to follow”

– I do not understand where the belief that everyone who is born in Poland “must” be baptized comes from. After all, that’s why our country is over 80 percent. Catholics. And the reality is completely different… (…) What right do I have to decide about another person’s life? It is said that each of us has free will. This should also apply to baptism, and therefore communion. I want to leave my child a choice. I will do everything to make him grow up to be a good and tolerant person, and when he grows up, he will decide what religion I want to profess – Julita wrote in her letter, which can be read in its entirety.

Under the letter published on Facebook, there were many comments from Internet users and Internet users. However, it turns out that opinions on this topic are divided. Some share the opinion of the woman, others the opposite. Here are a few of them:

Poles are not ready to understand that not everyone is a Catholic and not everyone wants to baptize their child

Let your child choose what education to choose. Whether or not he will learn will decide when he grows up to adulthood. Why send a 6 year old to school?!

I have the same opinion. Together with my fiancé, we have talked many times that the child will be taught every religion or interesting religious associations from an early age (we are both passionate about religious studies) and when he grows up and directs his faith, then we will take steps to introduce the child to given beliefs

Jesus was baptized as an adult

Faith is not coercion and no one should be coerced, especially a child who doesn’t understand it anyway

And you give your child a choice whether to learn English or to go to school, what clothes to wear when he is small, whether to go to the swimming pool or learn to dance. Anyone who tells a child what to do from an early age but gives them a choice in matters of faith is a hypocrite

So, with the choice of the name, one should also wait until the child decides? But when is the right time for a child to make a choice? After all, baptism does not preclude a change of religion in adult life and does not interfere with anything

And correctly. Stay as far away from religious darkness as possible
