The administration of US President Joe Biden considers the likelihood of Russia using nuclear weapons, in particular in Ukraine, insignificant, Politico writes, citing sources.
According to the interlocutors of the publication, this was stated by Assistant to the President of the United States for National Security Jake Sullivan during a conversation with a group of experts. Sullivan “said there was really no concern that [президент России] Vladimir Putin will use strategic nuclear weapons against Ukraine or Western allies.”
In addition, Sullivan, during a conversation with experts, revealed the content of the conversation between Biden and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky when they met in Kyiv. In particular, the presidents discussed possible US “obligations” to Ukraine after the end of the conflict. At the same time, according to Biden’s national security aide, no real negotiations with Moscow are foreseen yet, Politico sources added.
Recall, the day before, Sullivan told reporters that the United States does not see a change in the readiness of Russian nuclear forces and has not made changes to the readiness of its forces.
