Israel considers one-sided the statement of the UN Security Council, which expressed concern about plans to expand Israeli settlements on the West Bank of the Jordan River. According to TASS, this was stated by Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.
“The UN Security Council issued a one-sided statement that denies the right of Jews to live in our historic homeland, makes no reference to the Palestinian terrorist attack in Jerusalem that killed 10 Israeli civilians, ignores the Palestinian Authority’s grotesque policy of subsidizing the killing of Jews, and downplays the evil nature of anti-Semitism, which led to the massacre of millions of people,” Netanyahu said in a statement.
According to the Israeli prime minister, this statement by the UN Security Council “should never have appeared, and the United States should never have joined it.”
Earlier on Monday, the UN Security Council issued a statement stressing that Israel’s plans to expand settlements in the Palestinian territories jeopardize the viability of a two-state solution. The document notes full commitment to such a solution, in which Israel and Palestine will live “in peace with secure and recognized borders within the framework of international law and relevant UN Security Council resolutions.”
In addition, the UN Security Council condemned “any act of violence against civilians, including terrorist attacks.” The statement called on all parties to “remain calm and refrain from provocative actions” and related rhetoric. The UN Security Council also stressed the importance of maintaining the historic status quo of Jerusalem’s holy sites.
